Proximity Planning

Analyzing and planning the ingress/egress and general movement of masses of people.

The world has entered a new era of consciousness.  Campuses, arenas, malls, tourist attractions, concert halls… essentially any facility that is a venue for large gatherings of people for single events or continuous services will need to assess, design and clearly indicate the paths of safe ingress/egress and movement of people within the facility.

Make your venue stand out by showing patrons that their safety is paramount.

In conjunction with the analysis of emergency and fire escape routes, people movement design that maximizes ease of flow of people under regular operating conditions will establish trust with your patrons.

Smarter Spaces can work with you to develop effective and economical people flow design and associated mapping for all of your facilities.

What is Proximity Planning?

Our illustrations inform and guide both staff and the public in, out and around a facility safely adhering to physical distancing requirements.  These proximity maps work in tandem with building emergency procedures, and help users identify where their point of origin is and how to navigate to their desired destination.

Potential local & national regulatory compliance

If Proximity Planning evolves with changes in accepted practices, prior to submitting the final product to our clients, we will provide electronic copies to the local authorities (Fire Inspector, Fire Marshall Office, Health agencies if/as required) to validate our maps are in compliance with current best practice. This provides a level of added value to our clients.

Smarter Spaces is here to make your transition to a re-opened economy smooth and worry free

Smarter Spaces has provided fire and emergency mapping solutions for a variety facility types to strategically move masses of people out of buildings in a safe and orderly fashion.  Using this extensive experience we are well versed to work with you to ensure that your facility attends to the safe movement of patrons and gains their trust that you have their best interest in mind.

Evacuation Mapping

Evacuation route maps are signs posted within an area that will show people where they can exit from that location during an emergency.

  • Signs are to be posted at exits, hallways, and gathering rooms.
  • Emergency exits, primary and secondary evacuation routes, and assembly points are a few things required to be shown  on Evacuation Maps.

These maps will be required in order to obtain occupancy in newly constructed buildings.

Pre-Construction Fire Safety Plans

Evacuation route maps are signs posted within an area that will show people where they can exit from that location during an emergency.

  • Signs are to be posted at exits, hallways, and gathering rooms.
  • Emergency exits, primary and secondary evacuation routes, and assembly points are a few things required to be shown  on Evacuation Maps.

Fire Safety Plans

As per National Fire Code, a fire safety plan is a required document which gives detailed information on the planning, maintenance, and training associated with fire systems and policies for a building. It also contains information crucial to emergency services for proper handling of emergencies. This document is a legal requirement in:

  • every building containing an assembly, care, treatment or detention occupancy,
  • every building required by the National Building Code to have a fire alarm system,
  • demolition and construction sites
  • storage areas required to have a fire safety plan in conformance with code articles
  • areas where flammable liquids or combustible liquids are stored or handled, in conformance with code articles
  • areas where hazardous processes or operations occur, in conformance with code articles

Code Consulting & Occupancy Load

Is your building up to date regarding National Building Codes or National Fire Codes? If you are unsure, we can help!

National Fire Code defines Occupant Load as: “… the number of persons for which a building or part thereof is designed."

We can complete these calculations for you as well as the documents that need to be posted in the area.
